(Taiwan Security Research, By Priyanka Juneja) To understand the impacts, evolution, and future of the Chinese hukou system and its relations with the broader reform agenda rolled out by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, Taiwan Security Research conducted an interview with Professor Fei-Ling Wang, the author of Organizing Through Division and Exclusion: China’s Hukou System (Stanford University Press, 2005), a critical investigation into this extremely important but seldom explicated system.
